Our Founder

From Americus to the Worldand Home Again

Dr. Samuel G. Harper grew up right here in Americus, Georgia. After graduating from Southland Academy, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Georgia Southwestern College in 1979, followed by his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Georgia in 1983. With his education complete, Dr. Harper returned home to begin practicing veterinary medicine in the community that raised him.

Five and a half years into his practice, Dr. Harper felt a deeper calling. He, his wife, and their three children left Americus for missionary service with the International Mission Board. The family spent a year in Costa Rica before relocating to Peru, where they served for the remainder of their time abroad. Across ten years and two countries, the Harpers poured themselves into communities far from home.

In 1999, the family returned to Americus. And on May 15, 2001, Dr. Harper re-opened his veterinary practice as Harper's Animal Clinic, Inc. He brought with him not only over three decades of clinical expertise in small animal medicine and surgery, but also the perspective of someone who has lived a life of service across continents.

Today, Dr. Harper continues to practice the same compassionate, hands-on veterinary care that has defined his career since 1983.
